MicroCME: The Evolution of Therapeutic Options in Hereditary Angioedema

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe swelling, and recent therapeutic advances have expanded treatment options beyond traditional approaches. However, important knowledge gaps remain regarding emerging therapies, including RNA-targeted therapeutics and CRISPR-based gene editing strategies.
This activity will review current and emerging therapies for HAE, examine the mechanisms, safety, efficacy, and clinical considerations of RNA-targeted therapeutics and CRISPR gene editing approaches, and discuss strategies for effectively counseling patients on treatment options and shared decision-making.

After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:

- Analyze the safety profiles, efficacy data, and limitations of existing and emerging HAE treatments, including RNA-based and CRISPR therapies, to support informed clinical decision-making.
- Apply effective patient communication techniques to discuss treatment options, including current therapies, RNA-targeted treatments, and gene editing, addressing patient concerns, adherence, and ethical considerations.
