Despite clear guidelines, many healthcare providers lack confidence or up-to-date knowledge in managing asthma during pregnancy. Gaps persist in recognizing its impact on maternal and fetal outcomes, counseling patients on trigger avoidance and medication safety, and applying evidence-based treatment strategies. This activity addresses these shortfalls by enhancing provider competence in clinical assessment, patient education, and appropriate therapeutic decision-making throughout pregnancy.

This program is a collaboration between the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the Allergy and Asthma Network (AAN).

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

1.    Assess the impact of asthma on both maternal and fetal health, with emphasis on exacerbation risks and pregnancy-related complications.
2.    Demonstrate patient-centered counseling skills to support education on trigger avoidance, medication adherence, and emergency planning during pregnancy.
3.    Apply evidence-based clinical guidelines for asthma management in pregnant patients, including appropriate pharmacologic therapy and ongoing monitoring.
