Cough is the most common reason for patients to see a physician in the outpatient setting and an extremely common symptom for patients seen by Allergists / Immunologists.  New research has now shown that up to 40% of adults with chronic cough have a cause unrelated to other underlying disease such as rhinitis, asthma, GERD or other conditions.  This is now being called chronic idiopathic cough.  This video recording addresses the therapeutic approaches for treating patients with a hypersensitivity of the cough reflex, and it covers the new pharmacologic agents that are being developed to block the cough hypersensitivity.
